Highlander Gray Tartan Ultimate Utility Kilt with Comfort Waist

The ultimate utility kilt from UT Kilts is the definitive kilt in regards to comfort and function. This kilt has the most pockets out of all of our utility kilts including cargo pockets, slash pockets, rear pockets, and a secret, under-apron pocket. With this many pockets it will be a challenge for you to even come close to filling them up. However, this is not the best thing about this kilt. The UT Kilts exclusive Comfort Waist allows this kilt to go up in size without adjusting the look of your kilt. Just about every other utility kilt uses snaps or velcro to allow adjustment in the waist. Whenever you do that the kilt will not sit/look correct. You have to move your kilt to one side to get the front apron to align properly, which puts the side cargo pockets and rear pleats out of alignment (and vise-versa). Not with the Comfort Waist! An elastic waist built into the inside of the kilt that allows the kilt to expand without changing anything else on the kilt. It cannot be seen from the outside of the kilt. You can comfortably get 2-3 inches more room in the waist with our Comfort Waist (see sizing instructions below for details). We promise you will not find a more comfortable or functional kilt anywhere.

  • Comfort Waist – Exclusively from UTKilts
  • Under-apron Front Pocket
  • Two large side cargo pockets.
  • Two back pockets
  • Two jeans-like slash pockets above the cargo pockets
  • Made from an extremely durable polyviscose material
  • Standard shipping is only 2-3 days
  • 23" length on all sizes (custom order lengths here

Tartan Information

This is a universal tartan.  That means it does not have any clan or other affiliation.

Sizing / Measuring

It is extremely important you follow our measuring video and order the size you need based on your measurement, not pants size.  All of men's pants are labeled 2-4 inches smaller than what they actually measure.  Please see our measuring video below or checkout or measuring page here.

If you measure an even size like 38 or 40, then order that exact size.  If you fall in between sizes, you can order down to the nearest even size for a snug fit or up in size for a loose fit.

One of the biggest questions that also come up about sizing is weight loss / gain.  If your waist fluctuates within 2-3 inches, you can order the size your waist will be at the smallest point of your fluctuation. When weight loss is a goal, you can order smaller.  However, keep in mind that that the kilt should only be 2 - 3 inches smaller than what you measure (3 inches is pushing to the limit. 1.5 - 2 is best).  For example, if you measure 45 but will eventually get down to a 42, you can order a 42.  Just keep in mind the 42 will be a tight fit in the waist and hips until the weight comes off.

With that said, we always recommend ordering as close to your current waist measurement as possible for the best fit.

    Beautiful, stylish, versatile kilt

Posted by Risto on 8th Nov 2020

This has to be one of the best bargains I've ever seen.
This kilt is traditional, but useful. It is comfortable as a kilt should be, but it's so lovely to wear.
I get compliments every time I put it on.
I liked it so much I bought two of them complete with hose and Ghillie shirt.

    Great daily kilt

Posted by Anthony Piazza on 25th Aug 2020

Purchased this after my previous utility kilt "shrunk" on me (I just got fat, lol) to use for when the company we contact uniforms through doesn't provide enough uniforms for the week. Absolutely love the comfort waist, and it looks and feels amazing for a utility kilt! If you're either looking at getting into kilts or need a decent beater kilt, this'll do you nicely!

I don't often bother giving feedback on items I purchase, but I just had to say how happy I am with my purchase. My kilt is great quality, feels great and fits perfectly. I look forward to future purchases!

    Dark Grey Comfort Waist Kilt

Great fit. The kilt was heavier than I thought it would be. It is very comfortable than expected. The comfort waist is worth the extra money.

    Pretty goo kilt...

Posted by Andrew Corser on 5th Dec 2019

This kilt is pretty good: there are two comments I would make though: the lack of material in the back along with the box pleats make it problematic not to reveal all when you sit down; and the snap fastening of the kilt could do with being secured by velcro. Otherwise a good loohing and practical item,,,although I haven't washed it yet...

The Highlander Grey is the 4th of these kilts I've purchased. They are the most comfortable kilts I own, and I own many.

I got this one a week ago. It's stylish and really confortable with lots of pockets. I couldn't resist ordering a couple more with different tartans.

    Comfort-waist Kilt

Posted by AllisonK on 13th May 2019

Fits perfectly--absolutely true to size if you follow their instructions how to measure. I'm a tall female, and most women's kilts are far too short for me; I was concerned that a man's kilt might not fit right on the hips (this one does) and/or might look too "butch" (this one isn't too 'manly'). Overall, I'm very pleased with the kilt--good quality, LOTS of pockets, nice fabric, fast delivery.

    Ultimate Highlander utility kilt

Posted by Thomas Roberts on 7th May 2019

Hi Brice.I received my Kilt last week and I like it. At the grocery I wore it with a simple white collar shirt , sleeves rolled up, and cotton vest. A very cute (way to young for me) girl actually said hi three times. Your results may vary, but my wife said I'm not allowed to be in that outfit unsupervised. You should think of this as a nice pair of docker's.So casual to semi formally. I measured my waist at 35.5 and ordered a 36. I could have done a 34 with the comfort waist. After the grocery store, no way I'm sending this back. The pocket system is the same as a pair of cargo pants. Don't put more than one thing in each pocket. The cloth is light. A single layer can be seen through.( Three layers are covering your junk. With the hidden pocket.) This makes the air flow excellent. I had a family dinner at my house on Sunday. I had this kilt on from eight AM (after my bicycle ride) until eight thirty at night with a v-neck white T-shirt. I did add my cotton vest for serving and eating dinner. It was comfortable and functional the entire time.I did all the cooking as well as playing with my dogs and grandchildren. It was comfortable the entire time. The belt I'm using is a 1.9 inch tactical belt with a Ka-bar Jarosz turac. I need to find a more compact side arm or possibly more refined. The lighter material makes me think a morakniv maybe better. My Bear cat 22LR looks really nice with the short barrel. One more thing I really wanted to say is that this kilt should be rolled up instead of hung. If you look up Gray John's vid's, he shows it, but you role it so the top stayed level. The kilt is inside out. When you go to put it on, you hold the role in the left hand, behind your back, take the end with your right hand, and unroll it around your body. This should mean when you're left hand gets to the end of the Kilt, the inner apron should be able to moved across your front in your right hand. Then snap it on The front apron. This method works best for Kilts below 13oz wool, or below 10oz duct cloth. kilts Above these, a Kilt hanger is better. When you have more kilts, try it and you'll see why. This kilt fills an area where I want to be casual, but still the center of attention.
